Graduate Student, Philosophy
About
I'm currently a second year philosophy Ph.D. student at York University though I'm on leave this semester because I'm attending a class at UT Austin. It's been good so far, though it started out a bit slow. My main interests are in the philosophy of mind, but more broadly I'm interested in metaphysics in general and the question of what one is doing when one does philosophy.
Before moving to York I taught for two years at my old department in the American University of Beirut, and before that I was getting an MA from there. My thesis was on the intentionality of emotions and how that plays into their natural kind status.
My BA was an embarrassing affair where I had to get a degree in Business Administration to make my parents happy. I had no intention of staying in business after the first year in the program, and apart from learning some economics, statistics and number tabulation the whole thing was a joke.
Other than philosophy, I like playing videogames and watching good (so mostly non-Hollywood) movies, I also like keeping up with technology news. I used to read lots of fiction but now I don't have the time (more like I feel bad I'm not reading philosophy. Of course philosophy can sound much like fiction, as my girlfriend has pointed out), and my latest (and probably enduring) interest is walking around and looking at unfamiliar natural species. Lately I've been seeing interesting birds and mushrooms.
