Thesis Title: "The Uncomfortable Pew: Christianity, the New Left, and the Hip Counterculture in Toronto, 1965-1975"

About

I have just completed my doctorate in Canadian history.  My research focuses on the intersections between Christianity (Catholic, liberal Protestant and evangelical) and the youth movements of the Long Sixties (the New Left and the hip counterculture) -- specifically in Toronto.

The bulk of my research focuses on two very different intersections:

-- The relationship between liberal Christianity and the New Left, especially in groups such as the Student Christian Movement.

-- The Jesus people movement, in which the categories of "evangelical Christian" and "hippie" merged, and the result was a new identity, and new ways of performing that identity, drawn from both charismatic Christianity and the hip counterculture.
